Osogbo has no library. This building has been renovated and awaits our assistance in designing and equipping an internet based library of 50 computer terminals.

Artisans

Osogbo has always been a cultural center. The “Osogbo Renaissance” begun in the 1950’s is stagnant as artists and artisans struggle to find markets for their products and skills. Artists, the grove and the festival season (May-September) are critical components of a successful tourist industry.

Meanwhile an outlet for the artists products is needed.

Could it be an Osogbo Arts and Crafts Gallery in Asheville?

osogbo delegates

On August 25, 2008 Asheville and Osogbo officially became Sister Cities. The final signing ceremony of the Memoranda of Agreement took place at the Kings Palace in Osogbo attended by the ten-member delegation from Asheville. The signing of the MOA brought to fruition a two year effort spearheaded by Valeria Osunyemi Watson-Doost.

The directors of Zamani Refuge African Culture Center, Rainer and Valeria Doost preceded the delegation by three weeks and remained in Osogbo for all of August and September 2008. During this period, they made new friends and strengthened ties previously established in their 2006 visit.

Most people give after a disaster.

Please give to avert disaster!

Your personal involvement is the most valued contribution! Do you see a project that attracts you? Is your interest area missing? Let us know and we will gladly assist you.

Do you know someone who is interested in our collective African roots? Do you know someone who has skills they are willing to volunteer? Do you know someone who’s previous philanthropic efforts have been dissipated by corruption and mismanagement? Do you know someone who wants to engage with like-minded people? Do you know someone who wants to reach out to the people of this continent?

Refer them to Zamani Refuge African Culture Center. We promise to respect and judiciously use your contribution. Over the last two years we have established relationships with leading individuals in the Osogbo community who have a reputation for integrity and a commitment to helping.
